Keeping a home clean can feel overwhelming at times. Between farm chores, homeschooling, and everything else that fills a day, I’ve often found myself looking around wondering where to even begin. Over the years, though, I’ve discovered that having a simple cleaning rhythm (paired with natural products I trust) has made all the difference.

This post is especially close to my heart. Several years ago, when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, her oncologist told us that her cancer was “environmental onset, and hormone fed.” All the things she had been exposed to over her lifetime, pesticides, heavy metals, cleaning products, had left an imprint on her body. That was a wake-up call for me.

While we can’t eliminate every toxin from our homes, we can choose safer, simpler options for cleaning. And when those products are paired with a steady cleaning rhythm, homemaking feels so much lighter.

My Favorite All Natural Cleaners

Over time I’ve pared down my cleaning supplies to just a few basics that I can use throughout the house. The best part? You can make many of these at home with simple ingredients.

Simple Cleaning Hacks → From lemon and baking soda scrubs to vinegar sprays, these are my favorite go-to solutions. Find my natural cleaning hacks here.

All-Purpose Cleaner → I mix this up weekly and use it on countertops, sinks, and even light switches. It’s safe, effective, and smells fresh. Get the recipe here.

Foaming Hand Soap → A quick DIY that saves money and keeps our family’s hands clean without harsh chemicals. Here’s how I make it.

The cleaning list

Having all natural cleaners is a great thing, but actually using them in a steady routine is even better. I’ve often struggled with finding balance in homemaking, but creating a simple cleaning rhythm has helped me tremendously.

Every single day, there are three tasks I always try to do. If those are the only things accomplished, I can rest easy knowing the beds are made, the laundry is moving along, and the dishes are washed. If I don’t make it to the rest of the list, I know I can spread those tasks out over the week and catch up in time. As my husband’s grandma always said, “It all comes out in the wash.”

This simple cleaning rhythm fits right into the old-fashioned style of homemaking I’ve come to love. Our great-grandmothers didn’t have color-coded charts or complicated apps…they had rhythms and routines that guided their days. That steady flow of daily and weekly tasks made homemaking feel more manageable, and it’s something we can bring back today. If this idea inspires you, you might also enjoy my post on creating an old-fashioned homemaking routine and my series on why great grandma could do it all — because she had a daily homemaking rhythm.

My Simple Daily Cleaning Rhythm

Homemaking doesn’t have to mean tackling every single thing every single day. I’ve found peace in focusing on the “big three” daily:

  • Make the beds
  • Do a load of laundry
  • Wash the dishes

If those three are done, our home feels cared for. Everything else can flex depending on the day.

To make this easier, I’ve created a simple cleaning rhythm checklist you can print and use in your own home. Whether you’re in the thick of raising kids or enjoying quieter days, having a rhythm on paper keeps things steady.

Closing Encouragement

Switching to natural cleaning and following a simple rhythm hasn’t made my home perfect, but it has made it peaceful. It takes the overwhelm out of housework and helps me focus on caring for my family.

I hope this rhythm encourages you too. Start with the daily “big three,” and add in the rest as you’re able. Over time, it becomes second nature, and your home will feel more restful because of it.
