October 2026 Scripture Writing Plan

October…

The days are getting shorter, the evenings are cooler, and home begins to feel especially inviting. But even during a cozy season, it can be surprisingly easy for our hearts to feel anything but peaceful.

We worry about things we cannot control. We compare what we have with what someone else has. We hurry through our days thinking about everything that still needs to be done. And sometimes we become so focused on what we wish were different that we miss the good things God has already placed right in front of us.

So for our October 2026 Scripture Writing Plan, we’re going to spend the month focusing on a peaceful and contented heart.

What Does the Bible Say About Peace and Contentment?

One of my favorite verses on contentment comes from the apostle Paul:

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
— Philippians 4:11 KJV

I especially love that Paul says he had learned to be content.

Can I be honest with you for a moment? When I stopped and read that verse, really read it, it was a moment for me.

Contentment doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m often thinking about what I could change, what I could improve, or what I want to work toward next. So realizing that Paul had to learn contentment too brought such comfort to my heart.

Contentment wasn’t something that simply came naturally to him. It was something he learned as he walked with God through changing circumstances.

And perhaps what struck me most is that Paul wrote these words while he was a prisoner. He wasn’t writing about contentment from a place of comfort and ease. He had experienced need and abundance, hardship and provision, and somewhere along the way, he had learned to be content in all of it.

That makes his words mean even more to me. If Paul had to learn contentment through the circumstances God allowed in his life, maybe I shouldn’t be discouraged that I’m still learning it too.

Biblical contentment doesn’t mean that we never have goals, that we stop working to improve things, or that difficult circumstances suddenly become easy. It means learning to trust God’s provision and faithfulness while we’re living in the circumstances we have today.

And peace works much the same way.

Philippians 4 tells us to bring our worries and requests to God with thanksgiving, and then reminds us of the peace of God that can keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

That’s the kind of heart I want to cultivate, a heart that trusts more than it worries, gives thanks more than it complains, and recognizes God’s goodness even in ordinary days.

A Simple Scripture Writing Rhythm for October

You don’t need anything special to follow this plan. Just grab your Bible, a notebook or journal, and something to write with.

Each day, look up the assigned passage and slowly write it out by hand.

Don’t worry about filling pages. Most of the readings are intentionally short enough to fit into an ordinary day.

As you write, take a moment to think about what the passage is saying. You might underline a word or phrase that stands out, write a short prayer underneath the passage, or simply sit quietly with the words for a minute before moving on with your day.

The goal isn’t to complete another October challenge.

It’s simply to spend a few intentional minutes in God’s Word each day.

Learning to Be Content Right Where We Are

A peaceful and contented heart is something we achieve once and never have to think about again.

It’s something we practice.

We remember what is true. We bring our worries to God. We notice His provision. We give thanks. And when our thoughts begin running toward fear, comparison, or discontentment again, we return to Him.

My hope is that these few minutes in Scripture each day will help us do exactly that throughout October.

Maybe by the end of the month, we’ll notice a little more quickly when our hearts become restless, and remember where to turn when they do.
