The One Thing I’m Letting Go Before New Year (It’s Not What You Think)
As the year closes, here’s the one thing I’m letting go before New Year— and why releasing this burden is the key to a quieter, more peaceful homemaking year.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed, or like your home has been running you instead of the other way around… you’re not alone. As this year closes, I’ve been praying over my home, my routines, my heart, and the kind of homemaker I want to be heading into 2026.
And there’s one thing God keeps bringing back to my mind.
It isn’t clutter.
(Although I’m letting go of some of that too.)
It isn’t a bad habit.
(It’s never as simple as “I’ll just stop doing that.”)
It isn’t a specific room in my home.
Or a pile of laundry.
Or a disorganized drawer.
It’s something far quieter… and far heavier.
This year, I’m letting go of the pressure to do it all.

🌿 The Pressure We Carry Without Realizing
Somewhere along the way, modern homemakers began carrying burdens our great-grandmothers never held. We try to:
- keep a tidy home
- cook nourishing meals
- homeschool
- keep animals alive
- run a side business
- stay active on social media
- decorate beautifully
- keep up with laundry
- maintain friendships
- stay spiritually grounded
…all while holding onto the quiet hope that our homes will feel calm and peaceful on top of it all.
But peace cannot grow where pressure is crowding it out.
Over the past few months, I’ve felt the Holy Spirit whispering:
“You were never meant to carry all of this.”
And I know I’m not the only one.
🌿 What “Letting Go” Actually Looks Like
Letting go, for me, is not quitting my responsibilities.
It’s not lowering my standards.
It’s not giving up on excellence in homemaking.
It means releasing the unrealistic expectations I’ve placed on myself.
Here’s what that looks like in my day-to-day life:
✔ Letting go of perfection
Your home can bless your family without being perfect.
✔ Letting go of the constant internal criticism
You know that voice that says you should be doing more?
I’m gently shutting the door on her.
✔ Letting go of the belief that homemaking joy only comes when everything is done
True joy comes from walking faithfully — not flawlessly.
Glorify God In Your Homemaking
✔ Letting go of the comparison
Great-Grandma didn’t have Pinterest… and she didn’t need it to be a good homemaker.
✔ Letting go of the hurry
A hurried homemaker is a weary homemaker. I want to make space for slowness again.

🌿 What I Want to Step Into Instead
When I release the pressure to do it all, I can finally step into:
✨ Simplicity
✨ Peace
✨ Presence
✨ Joy
✨ Lower expectations & higher gratitude
✨ Spirit-led homemaking
✨ A quieter, slower rhythm
✨ A home that feels like rest
These are the things my heart aches for as we approach 2026.
I want a home that reflects contentment, not constant striving.
I want a heart that reflects gratitude, not comparison.
And I want routines that feel doable, not draining.
This is where I believe God is leading me.
🌿 What About You?
As you prepare for the new year, what is one thing YOU are letting go before new year?
Maybe it’s the pressure to be the perfect mother.
Maybe it’s the clutter that has smothered your joy.
Maybe it’s the expectation of a picture-perfect Christmas.
Maybe it’s the noise of social media.
Maybe it’s guilt, or hurriedness, or the belief that peace is always out of reach.
I’d love for you to take a moment — right now — and whisper it to the Lord.
“Lord, I let this go. Help me walk in quietness and purpose this year.”
🌿 Preparing My Heart for a Quieter Year
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more about how I’m resetting my home, heart, and habits for 2026 with gentle, old-fashioned rhythms that help us slow down and breathe again.
If your soul has been craving a quieter, simpler year too, you’ll want to follow along, because everything I’m sharing is part of a bigger journey I’ve been on:
learning to live “a quiet life”… with purpose, with peace, and with intention.
More on that soon. 🌿

Letting go. Such an inspiring message! Praying your family and ours can both realize the benefits through 2026.
