It’s time for another month of Scripture writing, and I have especially been looking forward to this one. For the September 2026 Scripture Writing Plan, we’re spending the entire month in the book of James, which happens to be my favorite book in the New Testament. I love James because it is so incredibly practical. It doesn’t simply tell us what to believe. It challenges us to take what we believe and live it out in our everyday lives. James talks about what to do when our faith is tested. It tells us where to turn when we need wisdom. It challenges the way we speak, the way we treat other people, the way we make plans, and even the way we respond when life doesn’t go according to those plans. Perhaps one of the best summaries of the entire book comes from James 1:22:
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
That’s what I hope we’ll focus on this month: not simply reading God’s Word, but allowing it to change the way we actually live.Grab your Bible, a notebook, and a pen, and let’s spend September in the book of James together.

Why I Love the Book of James
I think one of the reasons I’ve always loved James is because it meets us right in the middle of ordinary life.It’s easy to read Scripture, agree with it, close our Bibles, and then go about our day without giving much thought to how what we’ve just read should affect the way we live. James doesn’t really let us do that. Are we going through a difficult season? James tells us how to view trials. Don’t know what to do? Ask God for wisdom. Are we quick to speak and slow to listen? James addresses that too. Are we saying we have faith without allowing that faith to change anything about our lives? James challenges us there. Are we making plans as though we know exactly what tomorrow will bring? James reminds us that our lives are in God’s hands. It’s an incredibly practical little book, and that’s exactly why I love it.
Scripture Writing Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
If you’re new to these monthly plans, please don’t feel like you need a beautiful journal, special pens, or an hour of uninterrupted quiet time to participate.You don’t. I started sharing these plans because Scripture writing is one of the simplest ways I’ve found to slow myself down and really pay attention to what I’m reading. Some days you may write the passage and spend quite a bit of time thinking or praying about it. Other days, you may only have enough time to write the verses before moving on with your day. That’s okay. The goal isn’t to create one more thing on your list that you feel guilty about not doing perfectly. The goal is simply to get into God’s Word. One verse. One day. One faithful step at a time.

As we work through this September 2026 Scripture Writing Plan, my prayer is that we won’t simply finish the month with 30 passages written in a notebook. I hope we’ll finish it having been changed by what we’ve read.
James reminds us again and again that genuine faith shows up in the way we live. It affects our words, our actions, our relationships, our response to trials, and the way we approach the future. We won’t live any of that perfectly. But we can continue opening God’s Word, asking Him for wisdom, and taking the next faithful step. I’m especially excited to write through this one with you.
