Tips for Perfect Sourdough Pancakes

  1. Donโ€™t Overmix: Stir just until combined to avoid tough pancakes.
  2. Use a Hot Griddle: The batter should sizzle when it hits the surface for the perfect golden crust.
  3. Customize the Flavor: Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, or chocolate chips to the batter for a fun twist.
  4. Adjust Thickness: If the batter is too thick, add a splash of milk; if itโ€™s too thin, add a spoonful of flour.

Serving Suggestions

Sourdough pancakes are versatile and pair well with a variety of toppings:

  • Classic: Maple syrup and butter.
  • Fresh and Fruity: Sliced bananas, berries, or a drizzle of honey.
  • Indulgent: Chocolate chips, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
  • Savory: Top with fried eggs, bacon, or avocado for a hearty twist.

FAQs

1. Can I Use Unfed Starter?
Yes! Both fed and unfed sourdough starter work well in this recipe. Unfed starter may result in slightly tangier pancakes.

2. Can I Make the Batter Ahead of Time?
Itโ€™s best to cook the pancakes immediately after mixing, but you can prepare the wet and dry ingredients separately and combine them just before cooking.

3. How Do I Store Leftovers?
Let the pancakes cool completely, then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a toaster or skillet.

4. Can I freeze leftover sourdough pancakes? Yes, you absolutely can. Sometimes, if I have enough sourdough starter, I’ll double the batch, and freeze half of them for easy Sunday morning breakfasts. Simply pop a frozen pancake in the toaster, or toaster oven, for a few minutes. They are as delicious as when they were made.
